Before uni I had 6 years experience playing solo piano in hotel bars and choirs, giving me confidence to play in front of large audiences. I now have have 4 years experience teaching piano privately to children, focusing not only on technique and theory exams but also on developing their creativity. As the music specialist in a nursery, I teach children of 6 months to 4 years old creative music and dance, in groups of up to 20 students. We play games, learn note values and piano basics, and have a lot of fun! Privately I teach students of all ages, beginner to intermediate.
I am passionate and strongly motivated to help all my students explore the beautiful world of classical music and to bring out their best. I want my students to enjoy piano lessons and be excited to start the next one!
I look to push my students out of their comfort zone so they can explore their musical creativity.
Some things that really helped me become a better pianist were taking part in concerts, competitions and recording sessions, playing and analysing pieces in detail by composers such as Chopin, Mozart and Edvard Grieg, as well as collaborating with and accompanying other musicians such as cellists, pianists and singers.
I am a graduate music student from the University of Surrey, specialising in classical piano and composition. During my academic studies I had one to one piano tuition which helped me explore various classical composers and improve my piano skills to diploma level. I also studied other modules at uni including Composition, Musicology, Harmony and Analysis, World Music, Instruments and Orchestration and Screen Music Studies.
Now I am a freelance pianist/composer, writing music for films/animations which you can find on SoundCloud, and the Music Specialist in a nursery in Fulham.
To make lessons enjoyable for young students, particularly with learning difficulties on the spectrum, I use games (note cards, improvisation, singing) partner exercises and maintain excellent communication with students and parents regarding progress.
I base my lessons around listening, sight reading, time keeping, focused repetition, oral exercises, improvisation and collaboration. I am always keen to promote performance and regularly prepare my students for classical and popular music concerts.
