I have been teaching people, mainly children and teenagers, how to play the guitar, ukulele and bass over the past 9 years. My teaching experience has taught me how to develop patience, professionalism, communication, leadership, authenticity whilst bringing fun and excitement to the music lessons. What makes a good teaching and learning experience is Flow. We are all looking to be in the Flow in any type of scenario, be it at home, at work or elsewhere. Music lessons are ultimately rewarding as we set clear goals, commitment and light heartedness. There is no pressure from anyone to achieve anything and there is support from the people around the person learning to play the instrument(s). My experience has also taught me how to be straight forward and to say yes or no when I feel it is right to do so. This includes the behaviour, commitment, fees and other related elements. Over the years I have also worked with school bands including drummers, keyboard players, singers, woodwind and percussion players. The band sessions lead to yearly school performances where the musicians performed tunes in a variety of styles. Both in schools and privately I have helped young musicians to prepare for and pass Rockschool exams (grades 1-5) with pass, merit and distinction. Moving forward with my teaching I am very excited about igniting people’s creativity to compose and arrange their own music.
My teaching style and standard is for all levels from complete beginners to advanced players. When learning an instrument the best combination of elements is 1. using and developing your musical ear (aural) and 2. being in a relaxed state of being. The rest of the playing and learning follows naturally through the teacher’s guidance, music materials and suitable tools (apps, devices). As part of my teaching style I bring the key points above in their best quality to each music lesson.
