I have enjoyed over 30 years of experience as a string instrument based Teacher, composer and performer in the music business having worked in Scandinavia, Europe and the UK. For the last 20 years my teaching practice has encompassed violin, guitar, and keyboards for several music services and private schools. In addition to my ongoing career as an electric fiddle player with traditional dance and contemporary ceilidh bands, I am also viola player and resident composer of the Oxford Proms Orchestra who present a yearly Summer concert series in Oxford.
'Music for All' is my motto. I have taught all ages and abilities, old and young alike and have experience working with children with additional needs such as autistic spectrum disorder. As students requirements and aspirations are all so different, I shape the lesson content to suit each individual to see that those requirements are met. So whether a student is working towards an exam, or simply learning for fun and relaxation, I love to create a happy, positive atmosphere to work in for students to enjoy as they learn and vice versa. Lesson plans, reports, updates, advice emailed feedback etc. are always freely offered on the request of a student or parent. Whatever, I'll do my best to bring out the best in you!
I have taught grade exams up to diploma level for both ABRSM and Trinity boards and am perfectly happy to accomodate either, plus Trinity board classical guitar and Rockschool electric guitar. If a non-exam approach to learning is preferred then I use an extensive range of classical and folk violin/viola duets and can teach improvisatory techniques on violin.
